A man carrying a large ‘Rambo-style’ hunting knife has been arrested near Westminster cathedral.

Police officers on a routine patrol stopped and searched the suspect after spotting him acting suspiciously at around 11.45 on Thursday morning.

He was found to be in possession of a large knife in a black case. He was then arrested and taken into custody at a nearby police station.

A Met Police spokesman told the Standard: “At approximately 11:45hrs on Thursday, 31 August, officers on routine patrol in the Victoria Street area of Westminster attempted to speak with a man who was seen acting suspiciously in an area known for anti-social behaviour.

“The man was found in possession of a large knife. He was arrested and taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody.”

The incident is not being treated as terrorism-related.

The officers were working as part of Operation Bobcat, which sees plain-clothes police tackle knife crime and robbery in Westminster.
