Two men have been stabbed in the back and stomach in early morning attacks on a busy road in north London.

Scotland Yard is investigating whether the attacks, which happened in Kilburn High Road in early hours of Tuesday, are linked.

The force said officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area and no arrests have been made.

Police and paramedics were called at 1.19am and found a 63-year-old man who had been stabbed in the back. He was rushed to a central London hospital.

A short time later, emergency services were called to reports of a second stabbing at a different location.

They found a 39-year-old man suffering a stab wound to the abdomen. He was also taken to hospital.

The injuries suffered by both victims were not life threatening, police said.

It comes after five people were stabbed in a series of attacks in Edmonton, north London, at the end of last month. A man appeared in court in connection with those attacks last week.

Detective Sergeant Mark Johnson, of the Met Police, said: "At this early stage in the investigation, we are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked and there is a team of officers working around the clock who are carrying out patrols, CCTV footage enquiries and speaking to witnesses.

"I would appeal to any witnesses or any motorists who may have dash cam footage of the incidents who have not yet come forward to contact police urgently. Any information, no matter how small, will greatly assist us in this investigation."

Anyone who has information is asked to call North West area CID on 101 quoting CAD 386/09APR or Tweet @MetCC.

Information can also be reported to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
