A pensioner has been charged with murdering a young man who was shot dead outside a north London jail.

William Hardy, 70, of Islington, is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Hardy was arrested on Tuesday by detectives investigating the death of Imani Allaway-Muir, 22, in Islington on July 4, 2020.

A moped gunman killed Mr Allaway-Muir in a drive-by shooting at 3.20pm outside Pentonville Prison in Holloway.

Officers attended with paramedics but the victim could not be saved.

Neighbours said Mr Allaway-Muir lived with his mother less than 100 yards from the scene near a children’s playground in Roman Way.

A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a gunshot wound.

Seven other men - all from various addresses in Islington - have been charged with Mr Allaway-Muir’s murder.

Nathaniel Reece, 40, Matthew Hardy, 34, Darren Dredge, 39, Hassan Hamza, 27, Demetrios Kyriacou, 34, Dean Walker, 31, and James Nicholson, 35, are due to stand trial at the Old Bailey in February 2022.
