A woman has died after falling from a window in east London this afternoon.

Police, fire engines and ambulances were called to Westgate Street, near Mare Street, in Hackney at just after 4pm today.

A spokesman for the Met Police told the Standard a woman fell from a window at a house and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An air ambulance was seen in the area and the road was closed as emergency officials dealt with the incident.

Alan told the Standard: "I saw at least two fire engines, a few police cars and at least two ambulances."

Police said no arrests have yet been made and inquiries into what happened are ongoing.

It is not yet known whether the death was suspicious or not, police said.

The road has been shut and is expected to stay closed this evening.
