This is the first picture of a 24-year-old man who died after being shot in the head during an ambush outside a restaurant in west London.

Salim Coulter was blasted at close range as he climbed into the passenger seat of his friend’s car shortly after the pair dined together at family restaurant Jerky Chicken in Fulham.

Detectives believe that the gunman may have been “lying in wait” for Mr Coulter, who lived in White City and was training to be a gas engineer.

Police were called just after 9.30pm on Monday after neighbours reported hearing a “loud bang” in Walham Grove, off North End Road, where four-bedroom terraced houses cost upwards of £3.5 million, before the street “swarmed with police.”

The suspect fled leaving the passenger door of the grey Renault open with victim’s body lying sprawled half inside the car, half on the pavement.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Detective Inspector Noel McHugh said Mr Coulter’s murder had “shocked a community with a strong neighbourly spirit.”

He urged anyone who saw a man running from the scene of the crime to contact Scotland Yard.

Det Insp McHugh said: “Did you see someone hanging around the area from about 8.30pm that night, or running away from about 9.30pm?

“We know that he ran off along Walham Grove towards the Harwood Arms. Did you see where he went after this?

"Please think back to Monday night, and if you were out and saw something or heard something, no matter how minor you think it might be, then please get in touch with us.

“Your information could be a really important piece of our jigsaw.”

He added: "Also, I am directly appealing to any cyclists or drivers who were in Walham Grove or North End Road from 8.30pm who may have captured images on their own cameras.

“This material could have captured something that may prove significant, so please get in touch with us and share your footage.
