The family of a young father killed in a hail of gunfire on a busy high street today said: “He didn’t deserve this.”
Moses Fadairo, 25, whose twin sons were born earlier this year, was shot dead by a gun-wielding mob in a suspected gangland execution in Hackney, east London on Saturday afternoon.
Terrified shoppers dived for cover as three men approached Mr Fadairo before he was shot several times at close range.
Children watched in horror as the young father ran into a butcher’s shop in Chatsworth Road at around 1pm begging for help before stumbling 50 yards down the road and collapsing in a pool of blood.
Residents tried to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaking at the family home less than a mile from where he was killed, his grieving sister, who did not wish to be named, told the Standard: “We will still speak to him every day. He knows what is in our hearts as he can see us. He was a lovely boy, he didn’t deserve this.”
Friends gathered last night at the scene of the shooting to light candles and lay flowers.
One family friend said: “Moses was telling me he was trying to do something good with his life, that he was going to university. It’s a tragic loss of life.
“It’s more children now who will grow up without a father. The killing has got to stop.”
Another friend said: “He was warm-hearted guy, generous and kind.”
Friends also paid tribute to him on social media, with boxer Ohara Davies, 23, saying his death was “totally heartbreaking’, adding: “The streets need to change, and Hackney needs to change.”
A man in his mid-20s remained in police custody today after being arrested on suspicion of murder and driving offences.
