Ex-Radio 1 DJ Chris Denning has been charged with historical child sex offences as part of a police investigation into a youth disco in Surrey.

Denning, 75, from London, is accused of six sexual offences against four boys under the age of 16 during the 1960s and 1970s.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 14.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The charges relate to the wider investigation into non-recent sexual offences connected to the Walton Hop Disco named Operation Ravine."

Media mogul Jonathan King, from Bayswater, London, has been questioned as part of the inquiry and is on bail until October 13. Police are still investigating an 86-year-old man from Walton-on-Thames.

The police spokesman added: "Surrey Police have been notified of the death of a man in his 70s from Walton-on-Thames who was due to answer bail in connection with this investigation."
