Three police officers have been injured in a stand-off with an armed man who jumped from the roof of a Poundland store in south-east London.

Witnesses described dramatic scenes as the knifeman climbed on top of the building on Eltham High Street.

Police attended after being called to reports of an attempted robbery at a nearby card shop.

Passers-by said the man “ran up and down” on the roof before he “jumped onto the roof of an Audi and dented it”.

Faye Sheaf, 24, who works nearby, claimed the man "threatened members of staff at Card Factory" before climbing onto the roof of Poundland.

Another witness, who asked not to be named, said: “At least 25 police swarmed him and they got him on floor he stayed there (until) they put him in a police van.”

Police rushed to the scene in just three minutes following reports of an attempted robbery just after 11am on Tuesday morning.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said three police officers were taken to a south London hospital with minor injuries sustained in the stand-off. They have since been discharged.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and is currently being held at a south London police station, the spokesman added.
