Two people have died after a driver ploughed into parked cars in a horror smash in East Sussex.

Police said a car hit three parked cars in Eastbourne on Friday night.

The two victims, a 48-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, were sitting in a parked car when it was hit at around 9.30pm.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car fled the scene but was later found and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop after a road traffic collision

The 23-year-old, from Eastbourne, is currently in police custody.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police were called to a four-car road traffic collision.

“Three people were involved. Sadly, two were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver of the vehicle is assisting officers with their enquiries.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting ‘Operation Harfield’.
