A 12-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man are in hospital following a double stabbing in Hackney thought to be gang-related.

The boy was initially put in a critical condition by the attack which saw him stabbed repeatedly in the chest and back. Police said this morning his condition had improved and he was in a stable condition.

The 19-year-old was found with stab injuries to his hand and leg after police were called to reports of a fight on Gorsuch Street, Hoxton, just before 10pm. His condition was described as stable.

Half an hour later officers were called to Stanway Court 500 yards away and found the attacked child.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At the early stage police believe the stabbings are linked and gang-related.

"No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing. Police in Hackney continue to investigate in close partnership with detectives from the Trident Gang Crime Command."

Contact police on 101 with any information. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
