Michael Douglas has been cast for the role of scientist-turned-superhero Henry 'Hank' Pym in Marvel's upcoming film Ant-Man.

And the 69-year-old actor thinks his 13-year-old son Dylan - whose mother is Catherine Zeta-Jones - will "love" the project.

He: "I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan will love it. He'll have a picture he can see."

Comic book creators Marvel said they were excited to see award-winning actor Douglas bring the iconic character to life.

Studios President Kevin Feige said: "With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves.

"We felt incredibly relieved when Michael agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

Douglas, who won a Golden Globe on Sunday for his performance in Behind the Candelabra, will star alongside Anchorman actor Paul Rudd.

Ant-Man is expected to be in cinemas from July 2015.
