Window on the world: suites at the new Aman Tokyo have stunning views of the city

Adrian Zecha’s ultra-luxury brand for jet-setting minimalists opens its first urban venture with the 84-room and suite Aman Tokyo on December 22. It is set atop the six upper floors of the also new Otemachi Tower in the business district of the ever-changing metropolis. Old Aman-hands Kerry Hill Architects have fused Aman’s traditional pared-back interiors with elements of Japanese design (which are not that dissimilar, as you may imagine). A soaring six-storey reception resembles the inside of a Japanese paper lantern, beneath which sits an Ikebana or inner garden, water feature and rock gardens.

A two-floor wellness centre will include an eight-treatment room Aman Spa, gym, Pilates and yoga studios and strikingly stark indoor 30-metre swimming pool, with floor-to-ceiling windows that compliment the clean lines of rooms with furo, or deep-soaking tub, integral to the Japanese bathing ritual. The hotel has Mediterranean and Asian-fusion cuisine and a cellar stocked with more than 1,200 wines.
