Fans of 2009 film Avatar are in for a treat – Disney is opening a Pandora-themed park at its Florida resort.

Pandora: The World of Avatar will take guests on journey to the home of the Na’vi and will launch in summer 2017 in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The new park is being designed by Disney Imagineers and the film’s director James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment team.

Cameron said: “I don’t know if I can even express how it feels to have something I imagined in 1995, suddenly made physically real."

It will include a bioluminescent forest, a boat ride through the Na'vi landscape and a flight simulator that lets you ride on the back of a mountain banshee, one of the giant bird-like creatures flown by the Na’vi in Avatar.

"I was sceptical that it was even physically possible to build the World of Pandora," says Joe Rohde, Walt Disney’s Imagineering Senior VP Creative. "This was a crazy thing to try to do."

A top drawer team of robotics technicians, digital designers and structural engineers are using cutting edge technology that has never been used before.
