The new cycling technologies on show at the London Bike Show this week

The UK's largest cycling show returns to ExCeL with a raft of new innovations

The London Bike Show kicks off today at ExCel and the capital’s hordes of keen cyclists will have plenty of cool tech to lust after.

Many of the most innovative products are related to smart solutions to cycle safety, featuring brands such as British start-up Lumo, which is designed for city cyclists and features trims of LED lights for rides after dark.

On a similar theme, Huez will be unveiling a new limited edition Moon Rider Gilet, which has been made using reflective technology on mesh for enhanced visibility during the winter months.

Anti-theft devices are big business in London too and one innovation, the Sherlock, which claims to be the “smallest” anti-theft solution, will be exhibited.

It can fit inside your bike’s handlebars, frame or seat-post so that it is invisible to onlookers. It’s connected via GPS to a smartphone app, so that in the event the bike is stolen, not only can the owner track it down but also prove to police that they are the owner.

Away from accessories, the bike show is also the best place to look at the future of cycling before it arrives. Check out prototypes of radical bike designs such as the Supremalectic from PediBal, which is aimed at adults who did not learn to cycle as children, or the world’s first chainless electric bike from Mando Footloose.
