Noticed London's bug barricade or the pollen plague at all?

Well, if you have tried cycling in London recently, you almost certainly have - it seems that almost nothing can stop the specks getting in and bike buffs are having to stop and rub their eyes every second.

Boots pharmacist Angela Chalmers confirms that anyone cycling at speed without glasses is more likely to get particles stuck somewhere, and adds: "Except tears, anything that enters the eyes - be it pollen, flies, road particles, cut grass, spores or tree sap - is thought to be a foreign object.

"It can cause the eyes to water up or sting so it is a good idea to find an eye spray or mist with a combination of witch hazel, callendula and borax to help relieve the pain."

With that in mind, here is the best anti-bug/dust/pollen eyewear to help keep your eyes defogged and focused on the road ahead:

1: FOR THE SPEEDSTER
Oakley Radar Path Livestrong
£169.99, cyclesurgery.com

These have a hefty price tag but have won over serious cyclists on internet forums for their durability and design, not to mention a smudge- and dust-resistant barrier that repels water, skin oils and dust. A good high-end choice and light enough not to feel them on your nose.

2: FOR THE TRENDY CYCLIST
Topman Black Square Reader glasses
£14.99, topman.com

Geek specs aren't sporty-looking but Topman's plastic bestsellers with clear lenses and heavy black frames are good for the fashion-conscious, hayfever-stricken city cyclist.

3: FOR THE WRAP ARTIST
BBB Impact Sunglasses
£53.96, wiggle.co.uk

While their wraparound style means you can trust these to stop the dust, wind and itchy pollen getting in, they also have interchangeable polycarbonate lenses and an adjustable silcone nose piece.

4: FOR THE POLLEN PANICKER
Oakley Crowbar MX Goggle
£54.99, cyclesurgery.com

If sunglasses just won't do, these goggles are scratch resistant, well-padded and wide enough to give you a good view of the road. Best of all, they're fully enclosed so that pollen and dust can find something else to latch onto instead.

5: FOR THE OFFICE CYCLIST
Boots Pharmaceuticals Irritated Eyes Eye Mist
£11.22, boots.com

Once you've powered through London's bug barricade and arrived at the office, spray some of this on closed eyelids to soothe the itching and irritation. It contains goodie ingredients such as natural plant extract and would be a good bet for eyedrops-haters.
