Treatment: Pampering Pre-party Facial at Karine Jackson Hair and Beauty.

Science: A combination of exfoliation, face-mask, relaxing facial massage and mini CACI electronic facelift to set you up for a party night. The massage takes in the neck and shoulders — good for post-office stress — while CACI is a failsafe treatment for lifting facial muscles. In combination with the salon’s very good blow-dry (billed separately), it’s a dandy way to turn from desk grump to party girl.

Results: I went in wet and bedraggled and emerged feeling fresh and groomed. The optional make-up is subtle — if you want a high-impact look, you’ll have to ask. Do get your hair done while you’re there.

Cost: £59-£68 for 45 minutes, plus blow-dry.
