Although the majority of designer collections are widely desired, every so often luxury labels such as Gucci, Moschino and Balenciaga divide opinion with a few avant-garde items.

This season an array of designs have caused many an eyebrow raise since they've hit the shops - and no more so than Balenciaga.

The Spanish fashion house caused controversy last year for creating a £1,600 blue bag that looked just like a 40p Ikea tote.

However, it now seems that was just the beginning, as at the moment customers have the opportunity to purchase a £1,795 skirt that looks as like a car mat, or a pair of 'Pantashoes' - a half-trouser, half-shoe hybrid.

The boot-pants went viral last year thanks to their avant-garde design - and surprisingly sold out.

Therefore, due to much demand, Balenciaga have just bought out multiple new Pantashoe designs in their exclusive collection with Net-a-Porter.

And they're not the only unusual fashion items up for grabs.

The ever eccentric Moschino recently showcased a 'cardboard couture' collection, creating a series of luxe items that look like they've been made out of paper.

However, if you think they look hard to style into your day-to-day wardrobe then you obviously haven't seen Moschino's plastic cape that resembles a dry-cleaning bag.

And things are only going to get weirder, as Jeremy Scott dressed models of the moment Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber up like bouquets of flowers for his latest spring/summer 2018 show.

You never know one of these items may become the next big thing. After all, fashion's biggest appeal is its unpredictability.
