Clash of the Creative Titans

The London-based School for Creative Startups has received a pledge of support from some of the UK’s most influential business owners, including Anya Hindmarch, NET-A-PORTER.COM founder Natalie Massenet and Time Out Chairman, Tony Elliott.

The enterprise – founded by Dragon’s Den investor Doug Richard – helps give budding entrepreneurs a leg up in business through its year-long mentoring courses, workshops and surgeries in a range of fields including fashion, design, performing arts and music. “Entrepreneurs aren’t born, they are made,” explains Richard. “In this climate, it is vital to give people the confidence and knowledge to create their own opportunities.”

The line-up of media mavens, referred to – somewhat affectionately – as the Creative Titans, have joined forces in helping these creative talents, with more to be announced in June. The new faces will help support creative talent from London, including budding milliner Tamara Walsh, whose work is pictured above, and who designed the headpiece worn by Lana Del Rey on the cover of her Video Games single, as well as the video for Born to Die. “This programme provides the ultimate survival kit of business skills for entrepreneurs, tailor-made for creative people,” explains Massenet. “It is the ideal place to start for anyone with a strong idea or creative talent who is trying to build their business from the ground up.”

If you’ve had a Eureka moment and fancy a shot at working with these Top Dogs, applications for the new course in September, based at Somerset House, are now open. (schoolforcreativestartups.com)
