Frilled silk dresses, lavender terry-towelling coats and cuban-heeled ankle-boots lined with shearling served as a soft foundation to Clare Waight Keller's latest Chloé collection, unveiled in Paris today.

The result was a tactile offering in which the designer went big on texture and small on game-changing ideas. Working with her signature girl next door silhouette - a shape that finds itself in favour with school-run mums this spring - Waight Kellar sought to add dimension to oversized coats and swinging trapeze blouses through shearling, feather trims and silk.

Tailored trousers in butterscotch fell just below the knee and lent this show a hit of colour while blanket-coats will ensure that the fashion house has its part to play in next winter's big outerwear trend. But it was the knits on offer today that served as the collection's greatest asset.

Waight Keller, formerly creative director of Scottish knitwear brand Pringle, certainly has the experience required to spin a yarn or two.
