“Guess this is the karma for what I done to Maya,” Stormzy raps about the British television and radio presenter he dated for four years.
The two split in the summer, and now, the 26-year-old rapper is apologizing to Jama through his music.
The honest lyrics reveal that the two had planned to have children, with Stormzy later confessing, “Greatest love I ever knew, I poured it down the drain,” and, “You gave me the world and then I gave you disrespect / Hand on my heart, this is my biggest of regrets.”
While there’s certainly no question the song is about Jama, Stormzy addressed the lyrics himself while speaking on the BBC Radio 1Xtra show the morning of the album’s release.
“That's something we shared and it's on a public forum,” he said. “It was a hot topic and I'm going on record now and I'm apologizing. It was a public disrespect that needed a public apology,” he added, continuing, “That girl gave me the world. I will wholeheartedly say that's a phenomenal woman.”
The 16-track album also includes three previously released tracks, ‘Wiley Flow,’ ‘Crown’ and ‘Vossi Bop,’ as well as collaborations with H.E.R., Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran.
