Everyone talks of making sure your bed is soft and comfortable enough so you can sleep like a princess, but this year, surely we should be talking about making our bedroom fit for a Queen?

This Jubilee year is a cause of celebration for individuals across the country and across the globe, as we celebrate a magnificent 60 years of Queen Liz on the throne. And, like the rest of the country, some of the biggest and most loved British brands are celebrating too!

Over at Dreams, they’re celebrating the Jubilee with a fantastic 60% off everything sale – and that includes king-sized beds and queen-sized beds too. Have you ever wondered how king sized beds got their name? It isn’t what you might think: instead of King James or King Henry VXIII sleeping on a bed that was then named after the royal himself, king-sized beds were introduced in around 1958 at the same time as queen sized beds.

The Simmons Company in the US built the first queen sized bed – a huge 60 by 80 inches – that they termed ‘fit for a queen’. The name continued to be used, and the name was transferred to the king sized bed that (in the UK) is a huge 72 by 78 inches.

Not all of us have space for a queen or king sized bed, but personally we would sacrifice that bedside table to have the luxury of a little extra space. We’ve no doubt that the Queen and Prince Philip definitely have a king-sized bed (or should that be queen sized?) and, thanks to the Jubilee sale on at Dreams Beds, purchasing your own large, luxurious bed for the bedroom of your dreams can now be a reality.

While we can’t guarantee that your bedroom will be as fancy as the one at Buckingham Palace, we can guarantee an amazing night’s sleep. As one of the nation’s best-loved bed retailers, Dreams provides every customer with tailored service and is able to recommend the best bed for them to ensure the perfect night’s sleep. Their range of mattresses – also with 60% off in the Dreams Jubilee sale – includes memory foam mattresses for king sized beds and double beds, as well as traditional pocket sprung mattress.
