YouTube for people with time on their hands

Evening Standard13 April 2012

A VIDEO showing the internal workings of the Clock Tower at the Houses of Parliament has become a hit on YouTube.

The clip shows engineers carrying out an inspection of the clock, often referred to as Big Ben.

Big Ben is actually the nickname of the clock's Great Bell.

The video is part of a series, by parliamentary staff, posted online to give an insight into Parliament.

Hours after it was posted, hundreds of people had seen it and views are expected to hit several thousand by the end of the week. A series of videos shows parts of the clock being tested.

Cabinet Office minister Tom Watson, who advises on technology, said: "Using YouTube to open up places you don't see is a neat idea."
