Yard warns of terror law loophole

Standard Reporter12 April 2012

Britain's fight against terrorism is being undermined by a loophole in new legislation that allows police to arrest only foreigners, it was claimed today.

Scotland Yard has said it cannot detain one British fanatic who has boasted of recruiting men to fight for Osama bin Laden.

Hassan Butt, 22, has urged Muslims to fight a "holy war" against the United States and has recently returned from Pakistan, where British Muslims were signing up to join Taliban and al Qaeda fighters.

The Daily Mirror today claimed Scotland Yard said: " Under current legislation he's not wanted for anything."

While police will use the new legislation to round up about 20 suspected extremist Arabs or Asians in the next few days, Luton- born Mr Butt cannot be touched, despite his claims to have recruited 600 men to fight America and its allies.
