Woman prison warder had jail fling with acid rapist

A female prison guard exchanged explicit phone calls and text messages with a notorious rapist who was jailed for life after an acid attack on a TV presenter.

Prison officer Lisa Harris, 28, also tried to smuggle a mobile to Daniel Lynch, who was convicted of stalking Katie Piper, raping her and arranging for acid to be thrown in her face.

Harris yesterday admitted exchanging "amorous" text messages with Lynch and kissing him on the landing space of HMP Pentonville, Blackfriars crown court heard.

The offences of misconduct in a public office date between 1 January and 13 August. Lynch was sentenced for the attack on Piper on 1 May. Ms Piper has waived her right to anonymity as a rape victim to speak out in the case.

Defence barrister Charles Conway said: "After a week of this commencing with him by phone in an amorous way, with the odd kiss and cuddle on the landing, she tried to end it."

Harris, from Romford, will be sentenced next month.
