We could make Red Or Black a winner, say Ant and Dec

12 April 2012

ANT and Dec have defended their new ITV show Red Or Black after poor viewing figures, but admitted it could be improved.

The TV audience for the Simon Cowell project, in which players simply chose red or black for the chance to win £1million, sank to 3.9million halfway through its week-long run last week - despite it being the costliest entertainment production in British TV history.

By contrast, Cowell's other show The X Factor pulled in 10.6million viewers on Saturday night.

Red Or Black also drew adverse attention when it was found that one winner, Nathan Hageman, had been jailed for attacking a woman.

At last night's TV Choice awards at The Savoy, where the duo won best talent show prize for Britain's Got Talent, they insisted Cowell was "really buoyed" by reaction to Red Or Black. Declan Donnelly said: "I don't know [if it will be back]. We can improve the show." Ant McPartlin said it had finished high in the ratings on Saturday.
