Virgin Blue passenger numbers rise

AUSTRALIAN discount carrier Virgin Blue's passenger numbers for February leapt by 39.3% over the corresponding period last year.

The airline's traffic, measured by revenue passenger kilometres, grew 40.4% while capacity, measured by available seat kilometres, increased by 47.1%.

Passenger numbers for the 11 months to February shot up by 53.9%.
