Unfair sacking 'drives out' head

A headteacher who proved he was unfairly dismissed is giving up teaching and moving away from London because of the stress of the case.

James Walker, who has worked in London schools for 20 years, was suspended from Henry Fawcett Primary School in Kennington over claims of bullying and harassment against him by a staff member. He had just returned after chemotherapy for cancer.

The father of two, 55, resigned in September last year and took Lambeth council to an employment tribunal, winning his case last week.

Mr Walker, from Kennington, today criticised "stifling" education management. He felt "relieved and vindicated" but the case "has driven me away". He said his medical prognosis was good.
