TV weathergirl's sobs over affair

TV weather girl Andrea McLean today revealed she and her husband have separated after she confessed to cheating on him with a TV builder.

The GMTV star, 34, wept as she told how she spent the night with Steve Toms, her co-host on a DIY show.

McLean and Toms, 33, who is single, became close after her marriage to BBC producer Nick Green started to founder.

She confided in Toms and they began speaking on the phone and swapping text messages, before having a drunken one-night stand.

McLean admitted her fling six weeks ago on Valentine's Day during a trip to Paris organised by Green, 33, to save the relationship.

The couple, who have a two-year-old son, Finlay, have separated but are having marriage counselling.

McLean sobbed as she told the Sun: "We were on the train to Paris when Nick told me what a wonderful person I was, and that we should make a go of it," she said. "But I couldn't sit and listen to him saying all those nice things. I'm not a nice person because I did a terrible thing ... I betrayed him.

"He was understandably angry and hurt. He also said he felt terrible that I had been trying to tell him for months that our marriage was in crisis."

Green left the marital home in Wimbledon when they returned to Britain.

The couple met 17 years ago and were married in

1999. McLean started working with Toms, from St Albans, on home design show Our House on UK Style a year ago.

She has quit a new series of the show and broken off contact with Toms.
