Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 17-month-old boy.

The toddler was brought into North Middlesex hospital on the morning of August 3 and was confirmed dead at 12.10pm, Scotland Yard said.

Officers were called after concerns were raised by hospital staff and the Child Abuse Investigation Command have begun an investigation.

A woman aged 25 was arrested at the hospital in connection with the inquiry. She was taken to a north London police station and later bailed to return at a later date.

A 31-year-old man was later arrested at a north London police station and was also bailed to return at a later date.

A spokesman for Haringey council said tonight he could not confirm that the child was on an At Risk Register.

He added: "We can confirm that an independent multi-agency serious case review has been commissioned by the local Safeguarding Children Board, as is routine in circumstances like this."
