Tobacco makers fuming at new Australian law

Australia moved closer to introducing one of the world's toughest anti-tobacco rules today as its Senate passed a law forcing cigarettes to be sold in plain olive green packets with graphic health warnings.

The move, being closely watched by governments considering similar laws in New Zealand, Britain, and Europe, has angered tobacco companies which have threatened court action. It still has to be ratified by the lower house.
