Stop having babies to save the world, says (father of four) Boris

Protecting the planet: Mayor Boris Johnson says we are "replicating too fast"
12 April 2012

Boris Johnson today urged the world to stop having so many babies to protect the planet.

The London Mayor also called on the City to join the green crusade and restore its battered reputation.

Father-of four Mr Johnson said: "There is no doubt that humanity faces a risk of environmental catastrophe We are replicating too fast, hurtling towards nine billion souls on the planet like bacteria multiplying on a Petri dish."

The Mayor stressed banks had a "huge opportunity" to make profits with loans for the "greenification" of buildings. Highlighting how many old buildings there were in the capital, he added in his Telegraph column: "There is the opportunity to make deep cuts in the single biggest source of CO2 emissions. And if banks work faster, and help to devise necessary financial instruments, there is the chance for them to redeem themselves in the eyes of the public."

While highlighting the science on global warming, Mr Johnson accused environmentalists of undermining the arguments by being "miserablist, morose, bullying, judgemental and negative".

He added: "When the average punter sees hordes of crusties protesting in Copenhagen he or she is unlikely to be sympathetic."
