'Soldiers gang-raped girl'

13 April 2012

Detectives are investigating a teenager's claims that three paratroopers gang-raped her while their colleagues swapped pictures of the incident on mobile phones.

Three paratroopers, all aged under 20, have been questioned by police over the rape allegations and a further four from the regiment are under investigation over claims they recorded and swapped images of the alleged attack.

The 18-year-old has told detectives she met one of the men at a Dover nightspot on 6 September and went with him to Connaught Barracks, where she was raped by three soldiers. Investigators hope to trace the phones before the pictures are erased.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Hogben of Dover CID said: "A number of people have been interviewed, including a number of witnesses. We are making a decision over whether to take the matter further."
