Snubbed man ‘threw glass at club woman’

12 April 2012

A clubber attacked a woman and then her cousins and friends after she rejected his advances, a court heard.

Nouman Choudry, 31, had tried to chat up Hansel Abiburin at the Red Rooms in Holborn, Blackfriars crown court was told. Nick Wayne, prosecuting, said: "Ms Abiburin made no attempt to be subtle and told him to f**k off or get lost." Choudry allegedly pushed her and she retaliated. "He then threw a glass object, hitting her in the face," said Mr Wayne.

Next, the defendant turned on Ms Abiburin's cousin Yousef Mehmet on the dance floor, the jury heard.

Mr Wayne said: "Sherife Ahmet, his sister, saw Mr Choudry punch him in the face causing him to fall to the floor. He had five lacerations to his face."

Choudry also threw a bottle which hit Ms Ahmet in the head and — after they were ejected from the club — attacked Ozden Koynturk with a candle holder or a glass jar, it was alleged.

Choudry denies two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two of unlawful wounding on 10 August last year. The case continues.
