Russian billionaire's ex-wife tells of her £250m 'freedom'

'Relieved': Galina Berezovsky's settlement is Britain's largest
12 April 2012

A woman granted a divorce settlement at the High Court believed to be between £150 million and £250 million has spoken of feeling "free".

Galina Berezovsky, 52, was in a hotel in Limassol, Cyprus, last month when she heard the news of the settlement - Britain's biggest - from her billionaire husband Boris. It includes a £60 million house in Cap Ferrat which she plans to sell. She also has a property in Ascot with 35 acres and has just bought a £7.5 million house in South Kensington.

Mr Berezovsky, 65, lives in self-imposed exile. He made his fortune in the sell-off of state-run assets in the Nineties after the break-up of the Soviet Union but fell out with the administration of Vladimir Putin and was granted political asylum in Britain in 2003. Mrs Berezovsky has been telling friends: "I am so happy and relieved to be free."

The divorce was scheduled for a six-week hearing but Mr Berezovsky settled out of court.
