Red Arrows will not be grounded by MoD cutbacks, assures Blair

The future of the Red Arrows is secure, Tony Blair has promised.

After speculation that the RAF's world-famous air display team could be axed as part of Ministry of Defence cutbacks, more than 57,000 people signed an online Downing Street petition to save them.

In a written response, the Prime Minister said: "The Government recognises just what an important role the Red Arrows play in our national life.

"I am pleased to assure you that this Government fully intends to keep the Red Arrows flying."
