£750m Shell deal buoys Amec

ENGINEERING services group Amec has landed a £750m joint-venture contract to support oil giant Shell's exploration activities in the North Sea.

Shell has awarded the seven-year contract to Sigma 3, a new joint-venture consortium comprising Amec, Wood Group Engineering Services and Halliburton subsidiary KBR.

The contract is worth £160m for Amec in addition to the work it already does for Shell. 'This contract marks the trend towards higher-quality earnings through long-term service relationships with major clients,' said chief executive Sir Peter Mason.
