Pope visits scene of devastating quake

THE Pope was today visiting the central Italian area devastated by the earthquake which killed 297.

He was being joined by more than 400 journalists on the three-hour tour by Papal helicopter to the city of L'Aquila and nearby villages. Pope Benedict has been criticised for not visiting immediately after the 6.3-magnitude quake struck at the start of Easter week.
