Police name man killed after street attack

A 57-year-old man who died after suffering severe head and body injuries in a street attack was named by police today.

Brian Peters, who lived in the West Heath area of Birmingham, died in hospital on Saturday around six hours after being assaulted.

Mr Peters, a single man who did not work and lived on his own, was attacked in the Northfield area shortly before 1.30am.

Detectives are continuing to question seven people who were arrested immediately after the incident, but have freed two men aged 18 on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan Howat said: "We are working closely with Brian's family at this most difficult time.

"We would urge anyone who was in the Wychall Road or Fairway area at the time to contact the investigation room at Bournville Lane Police Station on 0845 113 5000."
