New triumph for top reporting team
THE excellence of Financial Mail's business coverage has been recognised by a new honour for two members of the paper's award-winning team.
Ben Laurance and Jenny Little have been jointly named Business Journalist of the Year.
The accolade, in the World Leadership Forum's 2002 Business Journalist of the Year Awards, was given for Financial Mail's report last July that the Department of Trade and Industry was investigating suspected insider dealing at frozen food retailer Iceland.
Financial Mail writers were shortlisted for awards for their coverage of insurance, banking, corporate finance, mortgages and personal finance.
Ben Laurance edits Financial Mail. Jenny Little is the paper's researcher and edits students@financialmail. They won the retail category, sponsored by Woolworths.
Their in-depth account of events at Iceland beat other category winners to take the top prize, sponsored by the Corporation of London. They triumphed over the Financial Times, Fortune, The Times, Channel 4 News, Business Week, Forbes Global and The Economist.
Financial Mail was recently named National Tabloid Of The Year For Personal Finance in the Bradford & Bingley awards.
In the Association of British Insurers' media awards, Jeff Prestridge was named Personal Finance Editor Of The Year.
