Measles breathe-in bag to replace jab

A LOW-cost inhalable measles vaccine is set to begin its first human trials within weeks.

To take the drug, patients simply breathe in fumes from a bag. Researchers say they are hopeful vaccines for other diseases, including tuberculosis and cervical cancer, can also be developed. "One of our primary goals of this project is to get rid of needles and syringes, because they frighten some people, they hurt, they can transmit diseases and there are issues with needle disposal," said Professor Robert Sievers, who led the project. Clinical trials of the vaccine are scheduled to begin in India, after five years of development.
