Marriage and music make Macca's year 'so special'

Sir Paul McCartney today hailed a "special year" after marrying for the third time and performing a string of gigs across the globe.

The ex-Beatle, 69, has just finished an acclaimed stripped-back world tour taking in the White House, the Yankee Stadium and Moscow, with only four other musicians joining him on stage.

Sir Paul, who married New York haulage heiress Nancy Shevell, 51, at Old Marylebone Town Hall in October, said: "2011 has been a pretty special year - I got married, so that's got to be the most memorable moment. Apart from that... the gigs have been amazing."

Talking to Radio 6 Music, he highlighted the importance of playing live rather than miming, and after a homecoming gig in Liverpool last night, he was looking forward to "family, food, drink and overdoing it" at Christmas.
