Man U score on takeover hopes

SHARES in Manchester United were expected to open higher again today after yesterday surging to their best for more than 30 months amid speculation that the Premiership champions could be a takeover target.

City bookies Cantor Index predicted the shares would open 7p higher at 242p.

Last week, Malcolm Glazer, owner of American Football Super Bowl champions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he had raised his stake in the club to 5.9% from 3.2%. Man U shares jumped nearly 8% in yesterday's trade.
