Man held over Jackson killing
Police today arrested a man wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of father-of-two Kevin Jackson who was killed after chasing suspected car thieves.
Mr Jackson, 31, was attacked near his home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and died in hospital on New Year's Day.
He had given chase after disturbing two men apparently trying to steal his father-in-law's car. Mr Jackson was found with five wounds to his head, probably caused by a screwdriver-type implement.
His wife Julie made a tearful appeal for help in finding his killer. As a result, police received more than 70 calls.
Mrs Jackson broke down in tears as she described how she told son Jake, seven, that his father died a hero. Mr Jackson also leaves another son, 15-month-old Thomas.
Rangzaib Akhtar, 19, was arrested at an address in Bradford at 8.30pm last night and was being held in custody at Halifax police station.
West Yorkshire Police said two females aged 19 and 21 who were at the same address were also arrested and were being questioned.
Police said a second man, 20-year-old Raees Khan, was still wanted for questioning in connection with the attack on Mr Jackson in Halifax on December 30.
On January 16, detectives took the "unusual step" of revealing the identities of the two wanted in connection with the incident.
One man was arrested shortly after the attack. Rashad Zaman, 20, was remanded in custody on a charge of conspiracy to steal a Toyota RAV4 car.
Zaman, of Apsley Crescent, Manningham, Bradford, is charged with conspiring with others to steal a Toyota RAV4 motor vehicle, registration number M318 WUB, between December 29 and December 30. He is also charged with conspiring to burgle houses between October 10 and January 4, and conspiring to steal motor vehicles between the same dates.
