Loyd and Lady: Grossman and the woman who could have been Queen

13 April 2012

Former Masterchef host Loyd Grossman shows he has great taste in women - as he kisses his new girlfriend, Lady Jane Wellesley.

It is the first time the pair, both 55, have been pictured together since they began a relationship earlier this summer.

Lady Jane, who once turned down a marriage proposal from Prince Charles, enjoyed a long lunch last week with the former host of Through The Keyhole in Notting Hill, West London.

The pair kissed as they walked along the street, holding hands. Then they did some food-shopping, before returning to Lady Jane's townhouse.

In her 20s, Lady Jane enjoyed an 18-month affair with the Prince of Wales, only to turn down his offer of marriage.

Later she had an eight-year relationship with married broadcaster Lord Bragg before dating author Anthony Holden, from whom she split up two years ago.

Lady Jane is writing a book about her celebrated ancestry - she is the daughter of the 8th Duke of Wellington and a direct descendant of Napoleon's conqueror at the Battle of Waterloo.

She has never married, but is said to be smitten with Grossman, whose career outside broadcasting has blossomed - he has earned millions from his eponymous range of pasta and curry sauces. Famous for his nasal mid-Atlantic drawl, he became involved with Lady Jane two years after the end of his marriage to Deborah Puttnam, daughter of film-maker Lord David Puttnam.

Grossman now sits on the boards of several charities and public bodies and was consulted by the Government as a 'food tsar' to improve hospital food. As chairman of the Campaign for Museums, he shares with Lady Jane a passion for art and the pair have been seen at exhibitions. He spent 19 years on Through The Keyhole, snooping round the homes of the famous, and on Masterchef he would 'deliberate, cogitate and digest' the performances of amateur chefs.
