Lineker's brother in tax dodge

Metro13 April 2012

The brother of former England captain and TV pundit Gary Lineker used relatives to hide £350,000 from the taxman, a court heard. Millionaire Wayne Lineker, 42, who owns a string of holiday resort bars, used employees and relatives, including his stepfather Peter Morris, to smuggle bundles of foreign banknotes back to Britain in a three-year revenue dodge. Lineker, of Fyfield, Essex, admitted plotting to defraud the tax authorities and awaits sentencing. Southwark Crown Court heard Lineker sold his Leicester market stall in 1998 and moved to Tenerife where he opened his first pub. The entrepreneur went on to own a series of Lineker's Sports Bars in Spain, Portugal and in the Canary Islands. But, instead of declaring the cash profits, they were brought back to Britain as bundles of local currency by either Wayne Lineker, his assistant David Hodges, or family and friends. Hodges also admitted the charges. John Stacy, of Natwest Stockbrokers, denies fraud and theft charges. The trial continues.
