It’s a stick-up at the bank with exploding glue

Bank robbers are facing a new deterrent when carrying out cash snatches in London — strong boxes which contain exploding glue.

The boxes, used to deliver cash to banks and building societies, are being booby-trapped with glue which binds the bank notes together.

If a robber tries to open the box a special glue "delaminates" the notes inside making them unusable.

Police and the security industry hope the scheme being piloted in London could spell the end of cash in transit robberies.

Previously boxes contained a device which activated a brightly coloured dye, but the notes could still used in machines.
