Inheritance tax threshold 'unfair'

More than two thirds of people think inheritance tax is unfair as rising house prices push more and more families above the threshold on which it is paid, research claimed today.

About 69 per cent said they thought the current system of charging the tax was unfair, compared with only 19 per cent who thought it was reasonable, said insurer Friends Provident.

It is thought 2.4 million properties are now worth more than the £263,000 tax threshold.
