Hutton to probe report leak

13 April 2012

Lord Hutton said today he was considering legal action against The Sun and the person or persons who leaked details of his report.

Earlier today both the Prime Minister and Alastair Campbell denied that they were responsible for the leak.

Challenged by Tory leader Michael Howard shortly ahead of Lord Hutton's statement, Mr Blair said: "Nobody, as far as I am aware, has leaked this, in relation from Government or any other part of Government."

At question time, Mr Howard called for an independent inquiry into the leak to The Sun newspaper.

Mr Blair said he was "very happy" for there to be a leak inquiry and if Lord Hutton recommended a "certain course of action, we will take it".

Earlier today, the Prime Minister was said to be "very angry" about the leaking of sections of Lord Hutton's report on the death of weapons expert David Kelly, which effectively cleared Mr Blair, his ex-spin doctor Alastair Campbell and the Government machine in general of blame, while criticising the BBC.
