How liquor laws apply in different countries

Britain:

Teenagers over 16 are allowed to purchase and drink beer, wine or cider with a "table meal" in a restaurant or pub. All other purchases of alcohol are limited to over-18s

France:

Anyone over 16 can buy beer, wine and cider, but you have to be 18 to buy spirits or liqueurs

Germany:

From the age of 16 teenagers are allowed to buy beer in bars, but they must wait until they are 18 before they are allowed to drink spirits

Teenagers have to be 16 or over before being allowed to buy alcohol or drink it in a public place

Italy:

US:

The purchase of alcohol by anyone under the age of 21 is strictly prohibited
