Grants for empty shops to show art art window

SHOPS left empty in the recession are to be transformed under plans to deter squatters and flyposting.

Wandsworth council is offering grants of up to £1,000 for vacant windows to display images of the local environment. Empty shops could also be used to showcase the work of local artists.

The council is looking at a pilot project in Tooting where a community mural could be painted on a bricked-up parade.
